CLEVELAND, USA, September 11, 2009: Hindu Youth for Unity, Virtues and Action (Hindu YUVA) was formed by Sai Kolluru in the spring of 2009 to “raise awareness of Hindu culture, principles, and values by promoting values such as self-discipline, self-confidence and a spirit of selfless service (seva) for humanity.”

YUVA has arranged lectures on Hindu astronomy, philosophy, Kama Sutra, Hindu contributions to science and technology, and the medical benefits of yoga and meditation. This fall, YUVA plans to honor two Case University professors for their work in “teaching and educating this community, enriching student lives, and inspiring us,” said Kolluru. “We will speak about the guru and disciple relationship, as Hinduism teaches us that a guru is like God who is there to guide us and show us the right path.”

Hindu YUVA brings together students of the Hindu Dharma faith to share information about the faith and to serve those around them. “Our final goal is seva, that is not just to help the society but to serve humanity,” said Kolluru. “We are not a religious organization, we are a social, cultural, [and] service organization.”

Hindu YUVA is also active in off-campus philanthropical work– Vinaya Vidya, a unique program which helps Bhutanese refugees enroll in local colleges; Project Sakhi, which is devoted to Bhutanese female empowerment; and Project Vahan, which focuses on creating homes and cleaning services.
