Slovakian President Praises Swami for Powers of Peacefulness On June 5, 1993 the president of the Republic of Slovakia, Mr. Kovac, honored Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda for his 20 years of yoga rehabilitation work in that country. The president's letter reads, "At the occasion of the 20th anniversary of your activities in Slovakia, I take liberty to thank you for your expert assistance to our people in regaining their physical and psychic power through yoga. I highly appreciate your program "Yoga in Daily Life" which provides us with a means to live in harmony with ourselves and nature and to reach physical, psychic and social health in human life and society. I wish you much creative power and success in your future work." Also honoring the Swami was Mrs. Erika Antalova of the Rehabilitation Institute in Piestany, which conferred on him their Medal of Honor for his work in the field of rehabilitation. Earlier, on May 31, the Swami attended an official reception at Bratislava Castle with the President's wife, Mrs. Emilia Kovacova, who acknowledged the long record of service provided by the Swami. Swami Maheshwarananda is the founder of the Sri Vishwa Deep Gurukul and the Swami Maheshwarananda Ashram in Jadan, and the Sri Deep Madhavananda Ashram Fellowship in Vienna. He moved to Europe from Pali, Rajasthan. "Slovakia" comes from the last four syllables of Czechoslovakia. The Slovak Republic is the eastern half of former Czechoslovakia, which split in 1992.
